OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Enterprise Amid Privacy Concerns

New business-focused version promises enhanced security to attract corporate users.

OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, has launched a business edition of its AI chatbot, aiming to address privacy concerns and a drop in user engagement. The newly introduced ChatGPT Enterprise offers enhanced data security and privacy features, targeting corporate clients. Early users include major companies like Carlyle, The Estée Lauder Companies, and PwC, according to a blog post released Monday.

“AI has the potential to transform work, boosting both creativity and productivity,” OpenAI stated. “This launch is a step toward creating an AI assistant tailored for workplace needs, capable of handling diverse tasks while ensuring company data is protected.”

ChatGPT Enterprise comes with perks such as unlimited access to a faster version of GPT-4, extended context windows for handling larger inputs, powerful data analysis tools, and organizational customization features.

OpenAI has faced criticism from privacy advocates over the platform’s collection of vast online data, including personal and potentially stolen information. Earlier this year, Italy temporarily banned ChatGPT, lifting the restriction after OpenAI made changes to meet the country’s data protection standards.

Major tech companies like Apple, Amazon, and Samsung have also restricted employee use of ChatGPT, citing concerns over safeguarding confidential business information.

In addition to privacy concerns, OpenAI is battling waning interest in ChatGPT, with website traffic declining by nearly 10 percent in both June and July. A recent Pew Research poll found that over two-thirds of Americans familiar with ChatGPT support increased regulation, and 52 percent feel more apprehensive than excited about AI’s expanding role.

The release of ChatGPT Enterprise comes shortly after Microsoft introduced Bing Chat Enterprise in July, a similar product promising robust data security for business users.
