Loyalty programs, medical data, GPS tracking, biometric identification—our digital footprints reveal much about us.

The vast amounts of data generated every time we interact with the internet offer significant potential for personalized experiences. However, this data is also exploited for commercial gains and can be used by governments for invasive control.

Dataland explores the multifaceted world of big data and AI, driven by the most influential data scientists globally. The film takes us to Dublin, where AI is becoming an integral part of community life; to Finland, where citizens share their DNA to enhance public health and predictive medicine; and to China, where facial recognition is commonly employed by the state to monitor citizens’ movements and personal activities.

Yet, we are only beginning to uncover the potential of AI. This documentary examines various related issues and offers a foundational understanding of how AI works and its future possibilities.
